Chapter 7 Installing Internal Options
Notes When Installing Memory
Identifying Memory Modules
Check that the number beginning with "CA" (e.g., CA05946-E101) printed on the label is the same on
the two DIMMs. Be sure to use a pair of modules with the same number. If the DIMMs have
identification labels, be sure to install a pair of DIMMs with the same capacity with the label placed in
the same location.
• Identification label location
• Identification label patterns
When a memory module is viewed with the corner circled in the above figure to the lower left,
identification labels are applied in any of the following patterns.
Memory Board and Memory Module Installation Sequence
• Install the memory boards in the order of Memory Board A (the standard board), Memory Board B,
Memory Board C, and Memory Board D.
• To add more memory, install a pair of memory modules, both having the same capacity, in the
corresponding slots in the order of Bank 1 and Bank 2. To add memory modules with different
capacity, install the memory module with the smaller capacity in Bank 1.
7.4.3 Memory Redundant Functions
The memory redundant Functions (memory mirroring function, memory RAID function, spare memory
function) can be set for this server. This section describes the installation conditions and the BIOS
settings. Any of the functions is available for all the memory modules installed. Mixed settings are not
possible.
