Changing to dual-core processors
6.3.1
Hardware requirements
System board
Ê
Make sure that the system board has the recommended revision status
(no. C51891-6xx) for the new Intel Xeon 7000 Sequence processors (dual-
core processors). All C51891-6xx versions of the system board support the
new dual-core processors.
Processor core VRMs
The core VRDs (Voltage Regulator Down) of processors #1 and #2 cannot be
exchanged, but they already support the new dual-core processors. The plug-
in VRM modules for processors #3 and #4 come in two variants:
1. The old VRM modules "10.2 LD", which do not support dual-core
processors!
2. The new VRM modules "10.2" (no. C47406-001), which support dual-core
processors.
The old VRM modules must be replaced with the new VRM modules "10.2"
(no. C47406-001, see
“Tasks to be performed” on page 43
).

Software requirements

Make sure your system has the latest firmware, BIOS, FRU/SDR and
operating system versions.
