802.1x authentication:
IEEE 802.1x
is a standard for network access
control (port-based), specially introduced for
distributing cryptographic keys in a wireless
network. The access point supports IEEE
802.1x to repel non-authorized users and to
check the authorization of users with RADIUS
so that authorized users obtain access to the
network and services.
To use
IEEE 802.1x
you require a common
Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) on
your authorization server, the APs
(authenticator) and the stations (requestor).
IEEE 802.1x
is also used to generate and
distribute cryptographic keys from the AP to the
station as part of the authentication process.
Another factor here is the dynamic
WEP
. It is
based on old RC4 WEP encryption and with this
access point is available under the setting to
enable
IEEE 802.1x
security in association with
disabled
Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP)
settings. Key lengths are selectable as 64 or
128 bit. The longer the key, the greater the
security it offers.
