Patching KSU phone extensions to TP
hub:
The incoming lines are routed to the KSU
and terminated. Take the two screws off of
the right Shorting block labeled “Lines1&2”
and remove Shorting Block. Then use a
Phone KSU Connecting Cable (HYD12 a two
pair system or HYD8 3 pair system, which
one is used will depend on the type of KSU
being used). Plug the male amphenol
connector on the KSU cable onto the now
open female amphenol connector on the TP
hub, then plug the other end of the KSU
cable with the RG11 connectors into the KSU
in the extension ports. See Appendix A on
pg.24 Telephone Distribution Hub pin out.
Terminating Category 5e Twisted Pair Cable
CAT5e Termination
1. Cut all the RG6 and CAT5e wires three feet from the wall. This will leave you with a 3’ service
loop of RG6, CAT5e and fiber. Two and a half feet from the wall, tape the cable securely to
hold the wrapper tight. Cut and remove wrapper from remaining 6” of cable.
2. If fiber optics is not terminated, tape the 6” section of fiber to one of the terminated RG6
cables for protection.
3. Terminate all CAT5e wires with EIA/TIA certified CAT5e connectors using the EIA/TIA 568A
standard (Figures 19 and 20). Stay with one standard throughout the installation. Wire
standards must be the same on each end of a cable or the cable section will not work
properly.
