Hot-swappable
Components
1.5 Hot-swappable
Components
Proper subsystem cooling is referred to as “normalized” airflow.
Normalized airflow ensures the sufficient cooling of the subsystem and is
only attained when all components are properly installed. Therefore, a
failed component should only be hot-swapped when a replacement is
available. If a failed component is removed but not replaced, permanent
damage to the subsystem can result.
1.5.1 Hot-swap
Capabilities
The RAID subsystem comes with a number of hot-swappable components
that can be exchanged while the subsystem is still online without affecting
the operational integrity of the subsystem. These components should only
be removed from the subsystem when they are being replaced. At no other
time should these components be removed from the subsystem.
1.5.2 Components
The following components are hot-swappable:
•
Controller module (RAID-1430R)
•
BBU(s)
•
PSUs
•
Hard drives
NOTE:
Instructions on how to replace these hot-swappable components for
maintenance purposes are given in
Chapter 5
