The following Doppler 403 Flow Phantom replacement parts are available.
Phantom Assembly
The phantom assembly consists of a target array with tissue-mimicking materials and vessels, and
a flow system with a pump and flow controller used to circulate blood-mimicking fluid. The tissue-
mimicking HE Gel, vessels, and blood-mimicking fluid are ultrasonically similar to human tissue,
which allows the use of typical clinical ultrasound system control settings when scanning the
phantom, and ensures that performance measured with the phantom approximates the scanner’s
performance in a clinical setting.

HE Gel
The HE (High Equivalence) Gel is a patented tissue-mimicking material that makes up the phantom
background. The HE Gel has the acoustic properties of human tissue with a sound speed of
1540 +/- 10 m/s. The gel is available in 0.5 or 0.7 dB/cm/MHz attenuation values and can be used
to test transducers and systems from 2 to 18 MHz. Due to the composition of the HE Gel, the
phantom can be rejuvenated, extending use for many years.
Targets
The 18 cm deep phantom contains 0.1 mm nylon fiber targets (pin targets), anechoic cylinders of
various diameters, gray scale targets, and a continuous flow loop, all embedded in a background
material of tissue-mimicking HE Gel. The targets and features are shown in Figure 1-2.
