Roller inspection:
A bumpy ride or a squealing noise may be a sign of worn rollers. Every maintenance
visit must include careful inspection of the rollers. Check that every roller is turning
during travel. Any hesitation or failure to turn while the lift is in operation is a sign that
something is wrong. Each roller runs on a shaft that acts as the axle. It is important that
the axle is properly lubricated. In some cases the roller may “freeze” onto the axle
preventing it from turning. If this occurs, the roller must be removed for inspection. If the
shaft of the roller is corroded or otherwise damaged, replace all of the rollers and axles.
Remember to lubricate the axle on the rollers if you are replacing them.
Roller alignment:
Check that the rollers are properly adjusted. If the platform walls are
not equally spaced from the wall, the rollers may need adjustment.
Interlock inspection:
The Garaventa solenoid lock is use don the vast majority of Garaventa Genesis lifts. It
includes a solenoid-operated bolt that locks the doors closed when the lift is traveling.
Inside the bolt are two contacts that, when the lock is released and the door is locked,
engage with the contact in the door bridging the safety circuit to allow travel. These
locks are operated every time the lift is in use and can be a source of wear and tear, as
the lift gets older. It is therefore important to inspect the interlocks for proper operation
at every maintenance inspection. If the locks are not regularly inspected and
maintained, they will fail and cause serious inconvenience to lift users.
Generally, the inspection of the solenoid interlocks involves two areas. Those are
contacts and lock solenoid operation.
Failures of each of these systems will have completely different symptoms. Refer to the
trouble-shooting section of the Genesis Service manual for instructions on how to
diagnose failures in the solenoid locks on the Genesis Lift.
