4. If coupling gap did not exceed 2-3mm beyond its nominal limit of 24/25.8mm, loosen M8 set
screw on motor coupling hub and move to close gap to nominal limit. If coupling gap is still within
its nominal limits of 24/25.8 mm, verify that each M8 set screw fixing the hub to the shaft is tight.
If either hub set screw is loose, apply a locking compound to its threads and tighten to 10 N-m
torque. Reinstall the coupling guard with the provided fasteners.

Coupling Element Removal.
1. Cleanse the visible shaft area behind the motor shaft hub. Loosen the M8 set screw fastening it
to shaft and slide it away from the compressor hub.
2. Retrieve the coupling element by pulling away from either hub and lifting away through the gap
between shafts. Take this opportunity to thoroughly inspect the coupling element and hubs.
3. Install the new coupling element on the compressor hub and slide the motor hub on the motor
shaft until the engaging the remaining slots on the coupling element. Check that the gap between
the hubs jaws is within 24/25.8 mm
– see dimension “E” on Figure 8-2. A smaller gap may
produce abnormal element wear by friction as well as thermal expansion. Make sure that the
keys are in proper alignment with the keyways on hubs.
4. Apply a thread-locking compound to the hub set screw (M8 size) and tighten to 10 N-m torque.
Reinstall the coupling guard with provided fasteners.
Coupling Hub Removal.
To remove either coupling hub the compressor must be removed from the package first.
1. Drain oil entrained in the compressor
– see “Lubricant Change Procedure” in Section 5.
2. Remove the following hardware connecting the compressor to the package. Make sure to identify
each item and matching [compressor-side connection] for its reassembly. You may refer to the
Parts List 13-25-509 for further help identifying the components:
a. Hose segment between intake filter and compressor inlet valve.
b. Oil lines between oil cooler and compressor.
c. Discharge line between oil sump inlet and compressor discharge.
d. Oil scavenge line between separator housing and compressor cylinder.
e. Compressed air line between oil sump and inlet valve feed port.
3. Prop suitable support underneath the main motor and base frame to help re-alignment after
compressor removal.
4. Remove four (4) bolt, nut and washer groups securing compressor to adaptor housing.
5. Lift and pull away compressor from adaptor housing and motor.
6. Cleanse the visible shaft area behind the shaft hub. Loosen the M8 set screw fastening it to shaft
and slide it away from the shaft. CAUTION! If either coupling hub failed to dismount after removal
of the M8 set screw, consider it interference fit to the shaft - see
“Installation and Removal of
Interference-fitted Coupling Hubs
” instructions at the end of this paragraph.
7. Take this opportunity to thoroughly inspect the coupling element and hubs. Replace any
damaged components.
