GARLAND CLAMSHELL GRILLS WITH PRODUCT RECOGNITION

TO REPLACE THE LINEAR ACTUATOR (continued)

4.  With the weight of the 

platen supported by 

the object inserted 

in step 3,  use pliers 

to work the clevis pin 

retaining clip outward, 

making sure to grip it 

as close to the pin as 

possible to prevent 

deforming it.

5.  Use the pliers to 

remove the spring 

clip from the pin at 

the base of the Linear 

Actuator.

6.  Push the pin through 

the actuator base 

toward the inside of 

the grill. Reach around 

to the inside and 

remove.

7.  Remove the Linear 

Actuator from the grill, 

carefully pulling it out 

the rear.

8.   Support the weight 

of the platen while 

removing the pry bar. 

Then, carefully lower 

platen to the down 

position, resting it on 

the grill plate.

9.  Screw NEW linear 

actuator shaft down 

approximately 2 turns 

from bottoming out.  

DO NOT completely 

bottom out shaft as 

it may not be long 

enough to reconnect 

the upper clevis clip.

10. Re-install linear 

actuator into rack 

assembly.  If motor 

does not clear the 

cross member, use pry 

bar to gently lift and 

fit as previously done 

in step 3.   Reinstall 

actuator base pin from 

inside and remount its 

spring clip.

11. Gently fit clevis 

clip through top of 

actuator shaft and 

cross member bar.  Use 

pry bar to align holes.

12. Reconnect wires as 

shows in the photos to 

the right.
