Calibrating the Sensors
Before you navigate, you need to calibrate the elec-
tronic compass and the altimeter.
Calibrating the Electronic Compass
You need to calibrate the electronic compass outdoors
the first time you use the 76CS Plus and each time
you install new batteries.
To calibrate the electronic compass:
1. Go outside and away from objects that
generate a magnetic field, such as buildings.
2. Press the
MENU
key three times to open the
Setup Menu.
3. Highlight
Calibration
and press
ENTER
.
4. Highlight
Compass
and press
ENTER
.
5. Press
ENTER
to begin calibrating the
compass. Follow the on-screen directions.
Hold the unit level and adjust your turning speed as
instructed by the on-screen messages. If “Calibration
Failed” displays, repeat the process.
When using the compass, hold the unit level and away
from objects that generate magnetic fields.
Calibrating the Altimeter
You can calibrate the altimeter to increase its accu-
racy. You must know the elevation or pressure at your
current location; use a reliable source.
To manually calibrate the altimeter:
1. Press the
MENU
key three times to open the
Setup Menu.
2. Highlight
Calibration
and press
ENTER
.
3. Highlight
Altimeter
and press
ENTER
.
4. To enter the elevation,
highlight
Yes
and press
ENTER
on the first
screen. If you do not know
the elevation, select
No
to
use the pressure option.
If you do not know the
pressure, select
No
to use
the default GPS elevation.
5. Use the
Rocker
key to
enter the new elevation or
pressure. Press
ENTER
when finished.
6. Highlight
OK
and press
ENTER
to finish.
