NOTE:
If a key is selected, its respective annunciator is illuminated.
The GFC 700 AFCS is mainly controlled through the GMC 705 AFCS Control Unit. The AFCS Control Unit
consists of the following controls:

HDG Key
– Selects/deselects Heading Select Mode.

NAV Key
– Selects/deselects Navigation Mode.
3
AP Key
– Engages/disengages the autopilot.
4
LVL Key
– Engages the autopilot (if the autopilot is disengaged and the aircraft is within the autopilot
engagement limitations) in level vertical and lateral modes.
NOTE:
The LVL Key will not engage the autopilot when Automatic Descent Mode (ADM) is active.

NOSE UP/DN Wheel
– Controls the active mode reference for the Pitch, Vertical Speed, and Indicated
Airspeed modes.

IAS Key
– Selects/deselects Indicated Airspeed Mode.

ALT Key
– Selects/deselects Altitude Hold Mode.

VNV Key
– Selects/deselects Vertical Navigation mode.
9
VS Key
– Selects/deselects Vertical Speed Mode.

YD Key (
optional
)
– Engages/disengages the yaw damper.

FD Key
– Activates/deactivates the flight director in the default pitch and roll modes. If the autopilot is
engaged, the
FD
Key is disabled.

APR Key
– Selects/deselects Approach Mode.
ADDITIONAL AFCS CONTROLS
The
AP DISC
(Autopilot Disconnect) Switch,
GA
(Go Around)
Button, and
MET
(Manual Electric Trim) Switch
are additional AFCS
controls and are located in the cockpit, separately from the AFCS Control Unit. These are
discussed in detail in the AFCS section.
