Note that the safe temperature range above refers to the temperature of the battery itself, not the
outside temperature or the temperature of the vehicle interior. Even during mild outdoor weather,
it is possible for a battery to exceed its 45°C (113°F) limit when the device is being used and is
mounted on the dashboard.

At hot temperatures, the maximum amount of battery charge that a device can receive is
intentionally limited to prevent damage to the battery. Because of this, it can seem as if your
device's battery is only charging to a certain point, but no further. This is normal behavior.

If this is occurring frequently, it may be beneficial to move the position of the device to an area
which receives less direct sunlight. An alternate mounting solution may be helpful in this regard.

Charging Accessory/Power Source

While many different charging cables and accessories may connect to your device, a device's
included Garmin-brand vehicle power cable is the only accessory which is guaranteed to be
capable of providing enough power to the packaged device. The included Garmin vehicle power
cable should always be used to charge the battery of a Garmin automotive device. See below for
an image of a commonly-included Garmin vehicle power cable.

If unable to use a device's vehicle power cable, other cables such as Garmin A/C adapters may be
used. However, such accessories cannot be guaranteed to properly or fully charge a device. For
the best chance of a device properly charging in this situation, it is recommended to power the
device off while it charges.

If the device must be used, then turning down the brightness of the screen can also ensure that
the device receives a full charge. For information on powering a device off or adjusting its
brightness, see your device's owner's manual.

It is recommended to always have the device plugged in when being used. The device will
charge while it is plugged in, but the only way to determine if it is fully charged is to have it
unplugged and on the main menu as seen below. The battery icon will be displayed in the top
right corner of the screen.
