Flying the LPV Approach
1. Wthn 31 nautcal mles of KSLE, the 400W
Seres unt swtches from en route mode to
termnal mode and the CDI scale transtons
from 2.0 to 1.0 nautcal mles, full scale deflec-
ton.
2. As you approach the IAF (GLORR), a waypont
message (“LT TO 314° x S”) appears on the
bottom of the screen.
3. As the dstance (DIST) to the IAF approaches
zero, the message s replaced by a turn advsory
that counts down 10 seconds pror to the turn.
4. As you approach the FAF (LOTKE), the 400W
Seres unt wll begn to automatcally rescale
n an angular fashon. Ths wll allow the LPV
approach to be flown n an dentcal fashon
to a standard ILS. At 2.0 NM from the FAF, CDI
scalng s tghtened from 1.0 to the angular full
scale deflecton (typcally the angular full-scale
deflecton s 2.0°, but wll be as defined for the
approach.
5. Sxty seconds pror to reachng the FAF (LOTKE),
the unt wll check the requred Horzontal Alarm
Lmt (HAL) and Vertcal Alarm Lmt (VAL) to
ensure the GPS poston ntegrty s wthn lmts
to complete the LPV precson approach. In the
event the HAL or VAL lmts are exceeded, the
approach wll be downgraded to a non-prec-
son approach ndcated by “LNAV” on the
movng map, a message that the approach s
downgraded (“Approach downgraded - Use
LNAV mnma”), and the gldeslope ndcator
wll be flagged. You may contnue the approach
usng LNAV non-precson mnmums f there
are LNAV mnmums for ths approach. In the
rare event the GPS ntegrty cannot meet the
non-precson HAL lmts, the unt wll send a
message to the plot to abort the approach
(“Abort Approach - Loss of Navgaton”). The
unt wll revert to termnal lmts to support
LPV Approach
