Figure 5-27 Terminal Mode
Refer to Figure 5-27 for the following steps.
7) As in the last example, within 30 nm of the
airport, the GPS 500 switches from enroute to
terminal mode, and the CDI scale transitions
from 5.0 to 1.0 nm, full scale deflection.
8) Just prior to crossing BODRY intersection, a
’HOLD TEARDROP’ alert appears along the
bottom of the screen to suggest the proper
holding pattern entry. (‘HOLD DIRECT’ or
‘HOLD PARALLEL’ may be offered on other
similar approaches.)
9) As mentioned in the missed approach example,
the Default NAV Page displays a timer during
the holding pattern (Figure 5-28). The timer
can be used to fly the one minute outbound
portion of the holding pattern. (The holding
pattern is displayed on the Map Page and
indicated as the active leg on the Default NAV
Page and the Active Flight Plan Page.)

10) When crossing the IAF, ‘SUSP’ appears above
the
OBS
Key, indicating that automatic
sequencing of approach waypoints is
temporarily suspended. As the aircraft turns
inbound, ‘SUSP’ is cancelled and the GPS 500
returns to automatic sequencing.
NOTE: If the pilot needs to lose extra altitude
or speed by going around the holding pattern
again, press the
OBS
Key to manually suspend
waypoint sequencing BEFORE crossing the
holding waypoint the second time. If this
waypoint has already been passed, re-activate
the holding pattern using the steps described in
Section 5.2.
