Intraplex Products
Section 3 – Installation & Wiring
This section describes the general DCS-9500/9530/9560/9565 installation process, which consists of
four procedures:

Unpacking and inspecting the equipment
●
Installing the shelves
●
Wiring power and signal connectors
●
Applying power
3.1 Tools and Cables Required
In addition to the Intraplex equipment provided, these items are necessary to complete installation:
●
Basic telecommunications installation tool kit (screwdrivers, wire stripper, and so on)
●
Rack mounting hardware (four bolts per shelf)
●
One four-wire shielded cable with DB-15 connectors or RJ-45 connectors for each T1 port
Note:
Normally, T1 connecting cables may run up to 150 feet in length. If your installation requires a
longer cable, please contact Intraplex Customer Service for advice.
●
Cables for each payload channel—RS-232, RS-449, or V.35 for data channels between multiplexer
and DTE equipment; 22 to 24 gauge wire for program audio channels; and RJ-11 or 50-pin telco
for voice
Note:
All payload channels connect to the multiplexer via module adapters that plug in at the rear of
the shelf. Appendix A of the individual channel module manuals provides detailed descriptions
of each module adapter and the cable requirements for the modules shipped with this system.

16 to 18 gauge wire for power connection, if the shelf is DC-powered
●
AC power cable (included), if the shelf is AC-powered
●
Optional: timing cable, if external timing input or output is required; the multiplexer end of this
cable must have an RJ-11 connector
●
Optional: volt-ohm meter (VOM)
3.2 Equipment Unpacking and Inspection
When unpacking and inspecting the equipment, perform these steps:
1.
Upon receiving the equipment, inspect all shipping cartons for damage.
2.
If you notice any damage, notify the shipper as soon as possible.
3.
Unpack all equipment.
4.
Inspect equipment for damage.
5.
Verify that the multiplexers are equipped as expected.
