12 Maintaining and Troubleshooting the Gateway ALR 9000 Server
System Memory
The system comes standard with 128-MB of ECC memory installed on the SIMM
card. System memory is expandable to 2-GB on SIMM card and up to 4-GB on
optional DIMM card.
Memory Subsystem Architecture
The system’s memory subsystem architecture supports three types of
configuration:
•
4:1 interleaved consists of four or eight rows
•
2:1 interleaved consists of two or six rows
•
1:1 interleaved consists of one row
An interleave in this system requires a minimum of two 36-bit SIMMs (1 row/72-
bit wide) containing a total of 64 data bits plus 8 bits of ECC RAM. To ensure
optimum performance, follow the procedures below when installing memory.
1. Install SIMMs one row at a time and in successive order, starting with row
one (1).
2. Use only identical type and size memory units with a speed of 60-ns or faster.
Note:
You must install two memory
units of the same size and type
with a speed of 60-ns in each
occupied row.
Important!
For optimum performance,
select a 4:1 interleaved type
whenever possible.
Note:
A row consists of two memory
slots.
