Replacing the Hard Drive Kit

Use the thumb notch to lift the hard drive bay cover,
then remove it. Be careful not to break off the tabs
located on the end of the cover opposite of the
thumb notch.

Remove the two screws connecting the hard drive
to the notebook.

Pull on the plastic tab to slide the old hard drive
away from the connector, then remove the drive.

Remove the four screws that secure the hard drive
to the hard drive bracket.

Remove the bracket from the old drive.

Place the new drive, label side up, onto the bracket
so the screw holes line up.

Replace the screws that secure the bracket to the
drive.

Slide the new hard drive kit into your notebook,
then replace the screws that secure the hard drive kit
to the notebook.

Replace the hard drive bay cover, then tighten the
cover screws.

Replace the keyboard screw.

Insert the battery(ies), then turn your notebook over.

Reconnect the optional port replicator.

Connect the power adapter, the modem cable, and
the network cable.

Reconnect all peripheral devices that were
connected to the notebook and replace any PC
Cards.

Turn on your notebook.

If the hard drive was sent to you from Gateway with
the operating system, applications, and drivers
installed, you will see the Windows startup screen.
-OR-
If you see a blank screen, restart your notebook, then
press
F11
while your computer is starting. Insert the
Operating System Recovery CD/DVD
when prompted,
then follow the on-screen instructions.
