Planning your Media Center setup
Video signal source
—
Your computer uses a
coaxial video signal from an antenna, a direct cable
TV connection, a cable box, or a satellite receiver.
Cable boxes and satellite receivers are also called
set-top boxes. Make sure that you have access to a
video source.
You’ve probably already decided where you want to set
up and use your Media Center computer, but before you
start connecting Media Center components, take a few
minutes to make sure that all of these connections are
available in the location you’ve selected.

Internet connection
—
Your computer needs an
Internet connection to update the program guide
and to access the Internet. Make sure that you
have access to a dial-up or broadband Internet
connection. See your computer user’s guide for more
information about setting up an Internet connection.
