Tighten the bolts successively, sequentially tightening diagonally opposite
pairs of bolts using equal amounts of torque, to raise the bottom end plate
into position in the column tube.

Carefully lower and remove the lifting device.

Replace the bottom mobile phase valve.

Fitting the top end plate onto the
adapter and adapter rod
Use a crane or hoist attached to the eye bolts fitted to the top end plate during disas-
sembly Section 6.1 Disassembling the column, on page 71 to lift the top end plate into
position.

Step
Lift the top end plate using a crane/hoist and carefully lower onto the shaft
of the adapter rod.

If the leak detection system is to be used, attach the leak detection tubing
between the top end plate and the adapter.

Carefully lower the top end plate until it rests on top of the adapter.

Screw the locking nut onto the tip of the adapter rod.

Remove the fittings of the crane/hoist from the top end plate and attach
these to the eyes on the locking nut at the tip of the adapter rod.

Fitting the adapter and top end
plate into the column
The adapter and top end plate are lowered into the column using a crane or hoist
attached to the lifting eyes on the locking nut at the tip of the adapter rod.
Action
Step
Lift the top end plate and adapter into position over the column tube opening.

Carefully lower the end plate and adapter until the adapter enters the column
tube. Maintain tension in the crane/hoist cables at all times to prevent tipping.
