GEEP-124-I Horizontal Induction Motor
WPI, Antifriction Bearing
Cleaning
Since the method of greasing anti-friction
bearings tends to purge the hosing of used grease,
removal of all grease should be required infrequently.
Whenever the motor is disassembled for general
cleaning, however, the bearings and housings should be
cleaned of old grease by washing with a grease-
dissolving solvent.
If so desired, the ball bearing may be cleaned
without disassembling the machine. Follow this
procedure:
1. Remove the alemite fitting and the relief
plug.
2. Free both holes of any hardened grease.
3. Pass flushing liquid through the housing
while the machine is operating. Flush until no grease
comes out with the liquid. For flushing use hot mineral
oil (not more than 100 C or 212 F).
4. Continue the cleaning by alternately injecting
small amounts of flushing liquid while the relief plug is
in place and drawing off the liquid by removing the
drain plug.
5. Regrease the bearing and then insert the
relief plug.
Grease Recommendation
