Input and output structure
The input and output structure of the D90
Plus
is shown below. Three groupings of inputs
and outputs are defined: physical, shared, and virtual, with digital and analog types within
each grouping.

The digital inputs and outputs have the following characteristics.
•
Physical inputs and outputs: The D90
Plus
can accommodate a maximum of five input
and output modules. One module is reserved for protection, allowing up to four
modules to be dedicated to automation, for a maximum of 48 points.
•
Shared inputs and outputs: These are internal registers that are accessible to both the
protection and automation functions. This allows protection physical inputs to be
passed to the automation function and
vice-versa
.
•
Virtual inputs and outputs: A total of 96 points are available in the controller for
storage of the intermediate or final results of logic processing (defined as virtual
digital outputs).
The analog inputs and outputs have the following characteristics.
•
Physical inputs: These are derived from analog input cards designed to measure
process variables produced by transducers.
•
Shared inputs and outputs: These are internal registers that are accessible to both the
protection and automation functions. This allows protection physical inputs to be
