5.4 General Recommendations.
s
When turning a knob, check that
the corresponding burner has lit.
s
While decreasing the flame of a
burner, watch the flame, not the
knob.
s
Turn the handles of cookware to
the side or backwards so they
won’t extend out of the range.
s
Use proper size cookware. Avoid
the use of unstable or easy tipping
pans.
s
If you use glass cookware, it must
be refractory.
s
Do not use pans having a metallic
ring (for example a Wok base), this
ring can act as a heat trap, causing
damage to the grate and burner.
As a result, the level of carbon
monoxide may increase, posing a
health risk.
When cooking, observe the following recommendations:
s
While cooking with the range, do
not use loose clothing or hanging
accessories.
s
Be careful when reaching items
stored in cabinets above the range.
s
Foods to be fried should be as dry
as possible.
s
Always heat the fat slowly and
watch it during heating.
s
When flaming a dish in the range,
turn off the extraction hood fan. If
the range is located near a win-
dow, do not use long curtains or
drapes.
s
Always turn off the burners before
removing the cookware.
s
Keep plastic items away from
burners. Materials could ignite if in
contact with flames or hot surfaces
of the oven and can cause burns.
s
Never use water to extinguish an
oil fire. Do not lift a flaming pan,
cover it completely with a lid that
fits tight, or use a metallic sheet, a
cookie baking tray, etc..
s
Stay away from the range when
opening the oven door. Hot air and
steam that escapes can cause
burns on hands, face and eyes.
s
When using cooking or roasting
bags in the oven (special bags to
cook certain foods), follow
manufacturer’s instructions.
s
Should you have a grease fire in
the broiler pan, turn off the oven
burner and keep the broiler
compartment closed until the fire
extinguishes.
s
Never heat unopened food
containers in the oven. Pressure
can build up and the container
could explode causing an accident.
s
Never let the flames of a burner to
extend beyond the bottom edge of
cookware.
s
If the oven cavity catches fire,
immediately turn off the oven or
broiler burner (the one in opera-
tion), and keep the door closed
until the fire extinguishes.
