Paddleboard Connections
The ETHER-1000 unit requires use of 86498-94 paddleboard (two slots wide)
installed at the rear of the shelf, directly opposite the unit. In addition, either one
or two single-slot-wide quad-port modules are installed on the 86498-94
paddleboard to provide customer connections to the paddleboard. The type of
module(s) installed depends on the number and type of Ethernet connections
required.
86498-94 Paddleboard Assembly
The 86498-94 paddleboard assembly consists of 3 boards. The bottom board
connects to the backplane. The top board houses an integrated Layer 2 Switch
IC (Marvell) on its inner side
(see Figure 29). On its outer
side it provides two connectors
(Banks A and B) for installation
of up to two quad-port modules.
Bank A is for Ethernet access
ports 1-4 while Bank B is for
Ethernet access ports 5, 6, G1
and G2 (these port designations
are matching those in the
software).
Bank
A
can
accommodate an
ETHER-100
quad-port module
, while Bank B
can accommodate an
ETHER-
1000 quad-port module
. The
two
banks
use
different
connector
types
to
avoid
misconnections.
WARNING
For correct operation, the 087-86430-90 subassembly (JVT/DS0 channel
bus extender) must not be installed underneath nor on either side of the
86498-94 paddleboard assembly.
One of the following three
ETHER-100 quad-port modules
can be installed into
Bank A:
86418-61 module with four 10/100 Mb/s (built-in RJ-45) Ethernet ports;
86418-63 module with four 100 Mb/s (SFP) Ethernet ports;
86418-64 module with two 10/100 Mb/s (built-in RJ-45) and two 100
Mb/s (SFP) Ethernet ports.
