The procedures in this Job Card produce X-rays. Ensure that you take appropriate precautions when
operating with X-rays (for example, stay behind the radiation screen during an X-ray exposure).

PROCEDURE

Objective
The aim of collimator calibration is to ensure that X-ray field and receptor misalignment is within the reg-
ulatory specification.

Front blade alignment and blade parallelism check
This part of the calibration is intended to align the front blade edge of the collimator with the detector
edge at the chest wall side, and to check the blade parallelism.
Note:
If it is not possible to align the front blade edge with the detector chest wall edge, the blade paral-
lelism check cannot be performed.
Proceed as follows:
1. Select on AWS Screen:
Service Desktop/Calibration/System/Collimator calibration
.
2. Remove the Bucky, the compression paddle and any objects from the field of view.
3. Click the
START
button on the AWS Screen.
4. Use the X-ray Console to make the exposure.
5. Observe the front blade angle displayed on the screen. Select and perform the appropriate action as
described in the following sections:
