Job Card DIAG A005 - Error Log Retrieval
Chapter 9
1
INTRODUCTION
When investigating difficult problems that require engineering support, it is sometimes necessary to cap-
ture error log information from the AWS/ADS for transmission to engineering personnel.
Typically, you use the procedures in this Job Card when the Senographe system cannot connect to the
OLC, and you have use an alternative approach to transfer the log files to your
engineering contact.
The procedures below assume that log files are copied directly to either a writable CD-R disk or a floppy
disk, for transmission to your engineering contact. The writable CD-R disk is the preferred media type as
its storage capacity is much higher than a floppy disk. However, the use of a writable CD-R disk is only
possible from ADS versions 31.27 and above.
Note:
On V3/V4 Control Stations, there is no floppy disk drive, and only a writable CD-ROM exists..

Error Log Files
The following error log files can be of interest. All are located in the directory
/export/home/sdc/senovi-
sion/logfiles:
•
error.log
: Records information for all detected errors, including the type of error (
halt
,
warning
,
advi-
sory
,
debug only
), date/time of occurrence, and the software module in which the error occurred. If
the file grows too large, it is renamed as
error.log.back
and a new
error.log
is generated.
•
ExamEvents.log
: Records a summary of image parameters.
•
ImageMeasures.stat
: Records details of image IQ parameters.
•
trace.SenoServer.log
: Records events seen by the ADS, describing the ADS to Generator communi-
cations. Because this file collects all events from ADS modules, its size grows rapidly
•
trace.positioner.log
: Records Positioner CPU events.
•
PoseidonEvents.log
: Records all Operator inputs on the Gantry, for system usage statistics.
Note:
The error log file names can vary, because the system concatenates date and time to the file
name.
When the log file directory is full, the current log files are compressed and transferred into
/export/home/
sdc/senovision/logfiles/oldfiles
. The compressed files are identified by use of the file name extension
.Z
(e.g.,
logfile.log
becomes
logfile.log.Z).
