Appendix D
Privacy and security
Introduction
This Appendix describes important cyber security information. This Appendix assumes
that the user understands the concepts of cyber security, or there is a department, or a
resource within the customer organization that does.
Cyber security
The product includes a computing device and stores both system data and process
data. Computing environments have become increasingly hostile. Threats continue to
grow from malicious software, including computer viruses, worms, Trojans, denial-of-
service attacks, and other malware. Vigilant defense on many levels is required to keep
the product free from malicious attacks.
Implementing appropriate cyber security measures protects both the product and the
generated and stored information from risks to integrity and availability. GE recommends
that the customer uses a risk-based approach in assessing and prioritizing the policies
and procedures for management of cyber security threats.
GE recommends to implement cyber secure operation as part of an overall "defence in
depth" information assurance strategy that is used throughout an Information Technol-
ogy environment. The strategy should address personnel, physical security, and technol-
ogy issues. The layered approach of "defence in depth" strategy limits the risk that the
failure of a single security safeguard could jeopardize cyber security.
General cyber security
requirements
In the environment where this product is used, it is expected that the following general
requirements for cyber security protection are included:
•
The product should be positioned in a lockable area. Only the approved personnel
should have access to the product.
•
A local area network connection should be avoided. If a temporary connection is
required, the connection should be maintained for a minimum time period.
•
If a permanent local area network connection is required, the network should be
protected and should not be accessible to unintended users.
