Hydrostatic System
Problem
Possible Cause
Remedy
No response from
either the
hydrostatic drive
or the lift/tilt
systems.
Hydraulic oil viscosity is
too heavy.
Hydraulic oil supply is too
low.
Drive coupling failure.
Allow longer warm-up or replace
existing oil with the proper
viscosity oil.
Check for low oil level in
reservoir. Add oil.
Replace the coupling.
Traction drive will
not operate in
either direction.
Parking brake is engaged.
Hydraulic oil supply is low.
Control rod linkage
disconnected.
Low or no charge
pressure.
Hydrostatic pump(s) relief
valves are malfunctioning.
Disengage parking brake.
Check for low oil level in
reservoir. Add oil.
Check linkage connection at
control levers and neutral
centering mechanisms.
Reconnect linkage.

Sluggish response
to acceleration.
Air in the hydraulic
system.
Automatic parking brake
partially engaged.
Hydraulic oil supply is too
low.
Low hydrostatic system
charge pressure.
Drive motor(s) or
hydrostatic pump(s) have
internal damage or
leakage.
Cycle lift and tilt cylinders to
maximum stroke and maintain
pressure for a short time to clear
air from system. Also check for
low oil level in reservoir, fill as
needed.
