P
set
= P
setref
+ [(T
ref
- T) × 0.184]
Equation 2
Where:
T
= Ambient temperature, at site (ºC)
T
ref
= Reference ambient temperature, marked on Data Plate (ºC)
P
setref
= Reference power marked on TEG Data Plate (W)
P
set
= Rated power at new ambient (W)
Note: Avoid setting-up the TEG to run at higher V
set
or setup power values, as its life
may be affected. This method is suitable for ambient temperatures of up to 65.5ºC
(150ºF). If in doubt contact Gentherm Global Power Technologies’ Customer Service
Department for guidance.
Example:
Ambient temperature at site is 35ºC. Set-up power of 67 W and V
set
of 5.88 V,
for a temperature of 22ºC, is marked on the TEG.
V
set
= V
setref
+ [(T
ref
- T) × 0.006]
= 5.88 + [(22 - {35}) × 0.006]
= 5.88 + [-13 × 0.006]
= 5.88 + [-0.078]
= 5.88 - 0.078
= 5.61 V
Similarly, power from the power unit at begining of life is,
P
set
= P
setref
+ [(T
ref
- T) × 0.184]
= 67 + [(22 - {35}) × 0.184]
= 67 + [(22 - 35) × 0.184]
= 67 + [-13 × 0.184]
= 67 + [-2.39]
= 67 - 2.39
= 64.61 W
7.1.2 Determining V
set
and Rated Power Graphically
A good approximation to V
set
and rated power can be obtained from the chart shown in
Figure 20. Knowing the ambient temperature, move up vertical to the line. Read the V
set
from the right side of the graph and rated power from the left side.
7.2 Checking V
set
or Setup Power
V
set
, i.e. setup power, can readily be checked by using a voltmeter or multi-meter to measure
the stable setup voltage of the power unit. Use the following procedure, as appropriate, to
check.
