Volume Controlled ventilation has, by tradition,
delivered each breath with a constant flow and
constant inspiratory and expiratory times,
according to the settings. The SERVO-s
Ventilator System gives the possibility to the
patient to modify both flow rate and timing.
So, if a pressure drop of 3 cmH
2
O is detected
during inspiration, the ventilator cycles to
Pressure Support with a resulting increase in
inspiratory flow. When the flow decreases to
the calculated target level this flow will be
maintained until the set Tidal Volume is
delivered.

consequences of this enhanced functionality.
the top waveform shows the trace for a
normal Volume Controlled breath
the second waveform shows a situation
when inspiration is prematurely interrupted
as the set tidal volume has been delivered
the third waveform shows a situation where
the patient maintains a flow rate higher than
the calculated target value. The set Tidal
Volume has been delivered when calculated
target flow is reached and the inspiration is
prematurely interrupted
the bottom waveform, shows a situation
where the increased flow rate is maintained
into the expiratory period. The patient will
receive a higher tidal volume than set due
to a higher flow/volume demand than
calculated.
