Transmission/Driveline/Rear Axle
TOP RED LED BAR:
Warns that the transmission is overfilled. At 180°F the trigger point for the top
red LED is approximately .275” above where the hot full mark would be on a manual dipstick. At ap
-
proximately .550” above where the hot full mark would be, the Check Level LED will be lit.
TOP AMBER LED BAR:
Indicates that the fluid level is just above where it would reach the hot full
mark on a manual dipstick. This light indicates that the level is safe, but is exceeding the recommended
operating range. At 180°F the trigger point for the top amber LED is between the hot full mark of a
manual dipstick and .275” above the hot full mark. At approximately .275” above the hot full mark the
top red LED will be lit.
GREEN LED BARS:
Indicate that the fluid level is between where the hot full mark and the hot add
mark would be on a manual dipstick. This is the desired “safe” range at which level should be main
-
tained.
BOTTOM AMBER LED BAR
: Indicates that the level is safe, but is approaching the bottom of the
recommended operating range. At 180°F the trigger point for the bottom amber LED is approximately
between the hot add mark and .275” below the hot add mark on a manual dipstick. At approximately
.550” below the hot full mark the bottom red LED will be lit.
BOTTOM RED LED BAR:
Warns that the fluid level is approximately .275” below where the hot add
mark would be on a manual dipstick at 180°F. When lower than .550”, the Check Level light will trigger.
CHECK LEVEL LED:
Will illuminate when the oil level is above the top of the span of the top red
LED bar, or the oil level is below the bottom of the span of the bottom red LED bar for more than 32
seconds. If the Check Level light is triggered by an overfilled condition, the top red LED will flash. If
the Check Level light is triggered by an under filled condition, the bottom red LED will flash. If the
transmission is overfilled or under filled, remove or add the necessary amount of transmission fluid. The
Check Level LED will stay illuminated until reset by the test/reset switch. The Check Level LED can
be reset while engine is running and the bar graph is displaying overfilled or under filled conditions, but
will reoccur if the oil level is not corrected. The Check Level light can be reset when the engine is not
running, but will reoccur the next time the gauge is activated if the level has not been corrected.
If the vehicle is left running in neutral at low idle for more than 2
minutes when parked on hills or where there is significant road crown
and/or deep shoulder or gutter condition, the Check Level LED may
occasionally come on even when the fluid level is close to either end
(high or low) of the safe range on the bar graph. This potential for false
signaling should be weighed against the value of the red Check Level
light alerting service personal to actual improper levels during the last
trip even after the engine has been turned off and the vehicle has been
parked. If local terrain causes too many false signals, contact Davco
Technology for information on adding inclinometer switches to turn off
gauge functions when the vehicle is left running while parked at extreme
angles.
