The electric portion of the hybrid
system features a 300-volt
nickel-metal hydride battery pack
that fits neatly under the second-
row seat cushions and between
Yukon’s stout frame rails without
compromising passenger room.
When called on, two motors
integrated within the transmis-
sion use battery power to drive
the vehicle.
When you apply the brakes,
Regenerative Braking uses
the motors in the transmission
as generators to decelerate the
vehicle while capturing and
storing that energy as electricity
in the battery pack. The energy
is then available for the next
acceleration cycle. You never
have to plug in at night.
At higher speeds, AFM uses
either V-4 or V-8 operation —
sometimes with supplemental
power from the electric motors
as conditions warrant. And the
transmission’s Tow /Haul mode
automatically and seamlessly
selects the best operating point
for the powertrain to deliver fuel

and performance while
reducing gear “hunting” associat-
ed with trailering.
Yukon Hybrid features several
reduced-mass components,
including a lightweight aluminum
hood and tailgate, aluminum
wheels and low rolling-resistance
tires. Yukon Denali Hybrid fea-
tures a power liftgate, 22-inch
aluminum wheels and MagnaRide
suspension that combines tradi-
tional Yukon handling precision and
agility with a truly luxurious ride.
