OUTER JO IN T ASSEMBLY
Disassemble (Figures 34, 42, and 43)
1. Remove outer joint seal. Refer to “ Outer Joint
Seal.”
2. Use a brass drift and hammer to gently tap on C/V
joint cage (19) until it is tilted enough to remove
first chrome alloy ball (17) (figure 42).
3. Tilt cage in opposite direction to remove opposing
ball.
4. Repeat this process until all six balls are removed.
5. Position cage and inner race (18) 90 degrees to
centerline of outer race and align cage windows
with lands of outer race (figure 43).
6. Cage (19) and inner race (18) from outer race (20).
7. Rotate inner race 90 degrees to center line of cage
with lands of inner race aligned with windows of
cage (figure 44).
8. Pivot inner race into cage window and remove
inner race.
2. Balls (17).
A. Tap on the cage with a brass drift to tilt it
enough to install the balls.
B. Pack the inner joint (18) with chassis grease.
Important
• Be sure that retaining ring side of inner race
(16) faces axle shaft (12).
3. Install outer joint seal. Refer to “Outer Joint Seal”
in this section.

Assemble (Figures 34, 43, and 44)
• Apply chassis grease to the ball grooves of the
inner race (16), and outer race (20) (figure 34).
1. Inner race (18) to the cage (19) (figure 44).
A. Rotate

(19) with inner race (18) to the
outer race (20) (figure 43).
B. Align the cage windows (B) 'with the lands (A).
Pivot the cage into position (figure 43).
C. Make sure the retaining ring side of the inner
race faces out.
