3. Using a new oil pan rear seal, apply a thin coat of
GM P/N 1052914 RTV sealer or equivalent on
ends down to ears, install pan against cylinder
case and install bolts. Refer to Figure 54.
NOTICE:
Refer to “ Notice” on page 6A2-1.
4. Oil pan.
Tighten
• Pan bolts and nuts to 10 N»m (89 lbs. in.).
VALVE LIFTER INSTALLATION

NOTICE:
Improper installation of lifter(s) and
anti-rotation bracket(s) could result in damage to
the anti-rotation bracket(s), lifter(s) and/or
engine.
Whenever new valve lifters are being installed,
coat foot of valve lifters with camshaft assembly
lube GM P/N 1052365 or equivalent.
Valve lifters - must be reinstalled in the same
bores from which they were removed.
V Important
• Install lifter(s) to bore being careful to align
flat sides (top) of lifter(s) with flat sides of
anti-rotation
bracket(s).
When
properly
installed, flat sides of each lifter are aligned
parallel to the anti-rotation bracket, the roller
at the bottom of each lifter is parallel to the
camshaft. Refer to Figure 16.
2. Anti-rotation bracket(s) to lifter(s) and block
observing Step 1.
NOTICE:
Refer to “ Notice” on page 6A2-1.
3. Bolt(s) retaining anti-rotation bracket(s).
Tighten
• Bolt(s) to 11 N*m (97 lbs. in.).

Important
• When installing cylinder head, be sure all
gasket surfaces, especially cylinder head
gasket surfaces, are entirely free of dirt, sand,
oil, and foreign matter directly before and
during assembly. Do not use sealer.
1. Cylinder head gasket over dowel pins on cylinder
block.
2. Carefully guide cylinder head into place over
dowel pins and gasket.
NOTICE:
Refer to “ Notice” on page 6A2-1.
3. Install cylinder head bolts finger tight.
Tighten
• Cylinder head bolts in sequence, refer to
Figure 55.
4. Engine lift bracket.

Important
Whenever new rocker arms and/or rocker arm
balls are being installed, coat bearing surfaces
of rocker arms and rocker arm balls with
camshaft assembly lube GM P/N 1052365 or
equivalent.
