Assemble (Figures 49 and 50)
Tools Required:
J 33049 Universal Camshaft Bearing Remover
and Installer Set
The outer camshaft bearings must be installed first.
These bearings serve as guides for the pilot, and
help center the inner bearings during the installa
tion process.
Be sure to fit the correct cam bearing into the bore.
ALL BEARING LOCATIONS ARE VIEWED FROM
THE FRONT OF THE BLOCK, WITH THE BLOCK
IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION.
The cam bearing
bores vary in size. The cam bearings are num
bered 1 through 5, with the numbers located on the
back of the bearing.
Rear cam shaft bearing. Drive the bearing into
place using J 33049 (figure 50).
Important
• The bearing oil hole MUST align with the oil
hole in the block located at the 1 o’clock posi
tion. The bearing seam must be located in the
11 o’clock position.
2. Front camshaft bearing. Drive the bearing into
place using J 33049 (figure 50).
Important
• The notch in the bearing must face the front of
the block.
• There are two oil holes in the front cam bearing.
Using the seam in the 11 o’clock position as a
reference point, one oil hole will be in the 1
o’clock position, and the other hole will be in
the 4:30 position.
• The front bearing must be installed with the
seam in the 11 o,clock, with the notch facing to
the front of the block, and the top oil hole in the
bearing at the 1 o’clock position, in line with the
oil hole in the block that is in the same location.
