Race to the summit – a game of chance with strategic elements
The mighty mountaintop must be scaled. And just as in the real world of the mountains, in this
game it is also important to pay attention to safety and only secure a hold on the mountainside
when you are sure there is no danger of falling.
Even so, you want to be the first to scale the mountain and arrive safely at the summit.
The race to the summit is a game of chance with strategic elements for 2 to 3 players.
The game promotes fine motor skills and strategic thinking.
Contents
1 game board with stand-up function (the mountain)
3 game pieces (mountaineers)
1 symbol die
Object of the game
The object of the game is to be the first to scale the mountain.
Preparation
The mountain is placed upright on the table. Is the North Face to be scaled, or the
treacherous South Face? You must agree on this – all the players scale the mighty mountain
from the same side.
Each player chooses a mountaineer to be the first to scale the summit.
The youngest player begins by throwing the die.
Rules
Throw the die once, then place your mountaineer on the mountain as indicated on the die.
The climb begins in the lowest row of holes.
You have thrown one orange dot? This means that you place one grip on an orange holding
point. If the die shows two holds, you can choose both the holds in the colour thrown. If the
holds thrown have different colours, you may choose two holds in the different colours. The
order does not matter.
You do not have to move your piece.
But beware! You must always make sure that your mountaineer has a secure hand-hold!
His hands must fit easily into the holes.
If no hand-hold can be reached, it is the next player’s turn.
The red dot means danger. Your upper hand loses its grip and is pulled out. If both hands are
at the same height you may choose which hand is to lose its grip on the cliff face. Now you
are holding on by one hand. If you now also lose your grip for the second hand (i.e. you throw
“red” again), you must rope down and start again from the bottom of the mountain.
Naturally, you can only use holes in the cliff which have not been claimed by other players.
If you are the first player to secure a hand-hold in the top summit hole, you have won the
game.
We hope you have lots of fun and success racing to the summit.
