Propeller shaft



Removal and installation of drive shaft

Removal of drive shaft



Key points of removal

Disconnect the drive shaft and flange disc at all coupling points.

Make aligning marks on the flange disc and joint fork

Remove nuts and bolts

Caution: park the bus on a level ground, pull up the

parking brake and place wedges in front of the front
and rear wheels.



Disassembly of universal joint
1)

Remove the locking piece;

Caution: install one locking piece on one bearing for

the sake

of balancing for some particular models of universal

joints.

Remove the balancing unit if any.

Caution: install one, two or three balancing units

between one

bearing locking piece and universal joint cover for some
particular models of universal joints.

Universal joint cover

Remove the universal joint

Remove the universal joint bearing and cross shaft from

the joint fork.

Place the joint fork under the manual press and push
part of the universal joint out from the joint fork lug.

The bearing inner race shall project from the joint
fork now.

Place the drive shaft assembly on a bench vice and clamp the projecting bearing with the
bench vice. Tap the part as indicated

in the diagram to remove the universal joint bearing.

Place the joint fork under the manual press with the
opposite edge of the cross shaft facing upward.

Place one small pushing tool at the end of the cross
shaft.

Press the bearing on the opposite side from the joint
fork lug.

Remove the cross shaft from the joint fork.

Remove the bearing from the joint fork lug.

Caution: keep in mind the position and quantity of locking pieces or balancing units.

The length of bolt varies with the quantity of the balancing units.
