SU-8 Suspension System
Electronic control unit (ECU), solenoid valve, height sensors, pressure sensor (optional), pressure switch, ECAS
alarm light, indicators and functions selecting switches.
3.
Installation requirements and test of all ECAS system components
3.1 Limits on the capacity of air reservoir
The air reservoir capacity shall be not less than 40L
Pipeline filters and overflow valves must be installed before air reservoir
3.2 Installation of height sensor
An ordinary vehicle has three height sensors, one for front axle and two for the rear axle, or vice versa. Installation
distance between the left and right sensors shall be as large as possible. Height sensors are fixed on the frame or
connected to the frame by brackets. And then are connected to the axles via swinging rods and connecting arms. Height
sensors are connected to brackets by M8 bolts. Only connecting rod of suitable length may be considered. There is a high
risk of rebounding if the rod is too short in length.
To ensure signal response to nuance height change, we shall make best of the winging rod stroke ±50° of height
sensor, but allow the axes lines of swinging rod and sensor housing to be mounted in certain angle. The height sensors
can be mounted in horizontally and vertically. Attention must be paid to the relevant position between the protruding feet
and swinging rod during installation. Verify if the vehicle is rising or descending when the swinging rod is moving
upward before fixing. For the normal operation of height sensor, it is critical that the inductance converted by ECU is
increased along the ride height. Please refer to the WABCO drawing 4410500110/605 for detailed instruction.
Avoid bending the swinging rod forcibly to prevent applying torque to the sensor camshaft.
Caution: since the height sensor works with inductance, no ohmmeter shall be used for measurement. The
inductance evaluates by passing a certain evaluation circuit in the ECU at the speed close to 50 times/second. ECU
supervises the operations simultaneously.
3.3 Installation of solenoid valve
ECAS solenoid valves abide by the principle of module design, i.e., combining several solenoid valves, which saves
much space and installation cost. Solenoid valves are generally installed at the cross beam or bracket of frame near the
axle loaded more heavily, and fastened with 2 M8 bolts. The port 11 leads to air supply and ports 22, 23, 26 and 27 leads
to air bellow, with all bores of M22x1.5.Make sure port 3 (exhaust port) is horizontal during installation. The
anti-mispairing device at the electric ports shall be fastened in installation. Recommendation on pipe bores of air route:
inner diameter of intake pipe should be ф10, and air reservoir ф8.
3.4 Connection of cables
Cables must be connected in strict accordance to wiring diagram 841801…0, connectors must be pressed and
connected with special tools and per WABCO technical requirements.
