Brake system classification by functions
1)
Service brake system: a special arrangement for making a traveling car to reduce the speed or even to stop,
also called master braking;
2)
Parking brake system: an arrangement for a car that has stopped to stay in place;
3)
Secondary brake system: an arrangement for ensuring a car with a failed service brake system to realize
speed reduction or stop;
4)
Auxiliary brake system: an arrangement for stabilizing the speed when the car drives down along a long slope,
such as exhaust brake and eddy current retarder. Such as exhaust brake and so on;
Brake system classification by brake energy
1)
Muscular energy brake system -- a brake system with the driver body as the only source of brake energy;
2)
Power brake system -- a brake system fully dependent on the air pressure or hydraulic pressure converted
from the engine power;
1.
Structure outline
The system adopts a piston-air compressor for inflation, a pressure regulator and various valves and pipeline
components for airflow control, and air gauges and an air pressure warning switch for indicating the system pressure
and making sound-light alarm in case of a too low air pressure.
To ensure the reliability of the brake device, the system adopts a dual-line system with the front wheels and rear
wheels separately controlled. The master brake valve controls the airflow. If one circuit is damaged, the other one will
still works, avoiding a failure of the whole brake function. Each circuit is composed of various valves and brake
chambers (one for each wheel) and has a separate light and gauge display.
In service braking, when the master brake valve is stepped down, the air pressure in the pipeline will propel the
tappet of the air brake chamber on the wheel to drive the pressure arm to open the brake shoe. As a result, the friction
brake force will be produced and the speed reduction be realized.
In parking braking, the hand brake valve is manipulated to release the air in the rear brake chamber and to drive
the pressure arm by making use of the elasticity of the spring of spring brake chamber so as to park the car. Meanwhile,
as the whole vehicle air pressure is now not sufficient to overcome the spring braking force, the car can’t be started,
securing the safety of the car.
To improve the brake performance of the service brake system and the whole vehicle stability during the brake
process, the system is furnished with anti-lock braking system (ABS) to improve the reliability of brake system.
2.
Energy supply device of brake system
The energy supply device of an air brake system includes:
1)
An air reservoir for producing air pressure energy and
air reservoirs for storing air pressure energy;
2)
Pressure regulators and safety valves for restricting air
pressure in safety scope;
3)
An oil-water separator, air dryer and anti-freezer for
improving the quality of energy transmitting medium;
4)
Multi-circuit pressure protective valve for preventing
