BR-56 Brake System BR-6125J93C-01
1.
Profile of ABS system
ABS (Anti-lock braking system) is
an electronic system supervising and controlling the vehicle speed
during the braking. Its task is to prevent the wheel lock-up (especially on smooth road surface) caused by
a too large braking force so as to maintain a lateral traction force even in full braking, thus ensuring a best
driving stability, steering control and braking coordination of the main trailer, and also guaranteeing an
optimal utilization of the braking friction force between the tires and the road surface and the vehicle
deceleration and braking distance. ABS system improves the vehicle initiative safety via the conventional
braking system.
WABCO ABS satisfies the requirements of the first-grade ABS in Appendix 13 of ECR R13, or those for
the first-grade ABS in GB 13594.
The advantages of ABS system include:
1. Guaranteeing the steerability of vehicle direction in an emergency braking;
2. Shortening and optimizing the braking distance on low adhesive road surface by more than 10%;
and maintaining an optimal utilization rate of road surface adhesion coefficient, i.e. optimal braking
distance on normal road;
3. Reducing traffic accidents;
4. Lightening drivers’ spiritual load;
5. Reducing wheel wear and maintenance cost
2.
Composition of ABS system
2.1 ABS components:
ABS is composed of many parts, mainly including electronic control unit (ECU), gear ring, sensor,
electromagnetic valve, sensor and electromagnetic valve leads, ABS warning light, switch (optional for
the main unit manufacturer), relay for retarder control (for vehicles furnished with retarder), power cord
with fuse and grounding wire. Additional functions can be obtained by the following components: one
ASR indicator, one switch or key for ASR, one differential brake valve, one two-way single directional
valve and engine control port. For trailers, ABS system should include an ISO7638 power source or
trailer ABS power source for providing the power to trailer ABS and a trailer ABS indicator in the
driver’s cab.
2.2 Configuration of ABS system
WABCO D and E models have various versions, depending on the vehicle types and control requirements.
There are cab installation version and axle installation version, dependent on ECU installation site. The
ABS systems currently used in China are all of cab installation version. They are classified into basic
version and full-function version, depending on whether ASR control is used. The basic version uses an
ECU mainly of 4S/3M and 4S/4M configuration. The ECU of full function version has the function of
anti-spinning of driving wheels in addition to anti-lock braking, with the main configuration from 4S/4M
to 6S/6M. The common configurations are different in the number of sensors and electromagnetic valves
and whether ASR function is available or not, and include:
4S/3M (4 sensors and 3 electromagnetic valves)
4S/4M (4 sensors and 4 electromagnetic valves)
6S/4M (6 sensors and 4 electromagnetic valves)
