XL 4200/XL 5200 HYDRAULIC SYSTEM OPERATIONS MANUAL
These stock-type valve banks have replaceable individual sections and are held together using tie bolts. For proper
torque and torque sequence, please refer to the appropriate parts page.
See Figure 51
Each tie bolt has a shim at
each valve section. These shims must be on each valve section during reassembly to prevent valve section damage.
Replacement shims ore available.
Each valve is pilot operated. Pilot oil enters the spool end cap shifting the spool. End cap springs center the spool and
generate a force for the pilot oil to work against. Both springs are designed to provide the load and (entering forces
on the spool. A small amount of float exists (.010") when the spool is in Neutral.
Tilt and auxiliary valve solenoids shift the spool. These solenoids work with pilot fluid directed through passageways
into electric end caps. The tilt valve uses proportional solenoids; the auxiliary valve uses simple on/off solenoids.
Some end caps have stroke limiters that control function speed. Hoist-up, boom-in/out, and travel all have adjustable
stroke limiters. If a machine has an auxiliary hydraulic circuit, this valve is also equipped with stroke limiters to set
hydraulic function speed.

An auxiliary valve section may be added to the front valve bank to power auxiliary hydraulics.
Installation kits are available from GRADALL. Due to the load sensing circuit in the valves, use of after
market auxiliary valves is not possible. Use only genuine GRADALL parts when adding auxiliary
hydraulics to a machine. Contact
