Section 6 — Functional Description
Control Processor/DSK/Still Store Module
The Control Processor/DSK/Still Store module resides in top slot 1 of the
Video Processor frame (see
). This module provides
the following functionality for the Video Processor frame:
•
Control Processing (central CPU),
•
DSK processing,
•
Still Store effects,
•
Tally relay circuitry and control,
•
Serial outputs,
•
Ethernet interface, and
•
GPI control and input/output circuitry.
Each section of the module is described briefly below.
Control Processor
The Control Processor section contains a single board computer (SBC) that
acts as the central CPU for controlling communication between the Video
Processor frame and other switcher devices and system functions.
Inputs to the Control Processor for noting switcher status include:
•
Tachometer inputs for the four frame fans to identify fan failure,
•
Power supply indicators for Present, AC Good, and DC Good for each
power supply (up to three in the 2.5 M/E and three in the 3-M/E),
•
High temperature indicators, and
•
4-bit Rotary switch for various switcher functions.
The module also has a hard drive which can be accessed from the
Menu/Facility LAN for storage of system configuration and a floppy drive
for use with an emergency recovery boot disk. LEDs on the front edge of
the circuit board monitor power and the transfer, receipt, and control of
data and resets across the system. These status indicators are shown in
detail in
A main power switch for turning the Video Processor frame on and off is
provided on the front of the module. In series with it is a thermal shutoff
switch which will turn off the main power switch and shut down the power
supplies when the board temperature exceeds 71 degrees C. The Control
Processor status parameters such as temperature and power supply status
are reported in the web browser interface to the frame. Refer to
for details on user access to Frame status.
