Video Processor Frame Modules
Dual Mix/Effects (M/E) Modules
In a Zodiak system, the mix/effects circuitry for M/E 1 and M/E 2 resides
on the Dual M/E module in slot 2 (see
system, a second M/E module containing M/E 3 only is installed in slot 3.
Mix/Effect module functionality includes the following:
•
Video and key processing,
•
Wipe generation,
•
Transform Engine manipulation of video,
•
Mixing of M/E video, and
•
Effects Send outputs.
Circuitry for each M/E bank is identical as described below.
Video and Key Processing
Each M/E bank receives the selected Key 1 – 4 video (fill) and key (cut) sig-
nals, A and B background video, and Utility video (if selected) from the
Input/Crosspoint/Sync Gen module. The signals are combined in FPGA
(Field Programmable Gate Array) circuits according to control signals from
the Main and Menu panel based on the effects defined by the switcher
operator.
The video processor section of the module performs the following func-
tions:
•
Chroma Keying,
•
Posterization and solarization,
•
Color and hue modification,
•
Modification of contrast and brightness, and
•
Key clip and gain.
Wipe Generation
Two complex and four simple wipe generators provide wipe effects for
each M/E. Wipe generators are shared between the A and B background
buses and the four keyers. Point of use and assignment of wipe generators
is done using the Wipe menu in the Zodiak Menu application. Wipes mod-
ifiers include:
•
Multiplication,
•
Frequency modulation,
•
Aspect,
•
Position,
•
Direction,
