Appendix C — External Interfaces
General External Device Interfacing
In general, interfacing an external device to the Zodiak system involves
some or all of the following elements:
•
Control cabling,
•
Video cabling,
•
Defining the device in the Zodiak Eng Setup, Ports & Devices menu
(Device Name, Device Type, Protocol, Port, IP Address),
•
Defining Zodiak source definition and button mapping if the device is
used as an input to the switcher, and
•
Defining necessary parameters in the external device to match those of
the switcher when required.
The Zodiak system uses a software Device Definition object to define the
capabilities of each device interfaced with the system. External Device Def-
initions contain the information required for that external device, (e.g., IP
address). Configuration of most devices begins by defining the device in
the Zodiak Eng Setup Ports and Devices menu (
). Some devices,
including 32-Crosspoint Remote Aux panels and devices providing GPI
inputs, do not require device definition in this menu.
Note
To edit the Device Type or Protocol, you must remove the device by touching
Remove Device and create a new one.
