Zodiak Installation and Service Manual
Section 2 — Installation
The serial ports of the rear of the frame are used for interfacing to various
external devices such as an editor, optional 24-Crosspoint Remote Aux
panels and PBus and CPL DPM devices. The serial port device assignments
(
) are assigned in the Eng Setup, Ports & Devices menu using the
Zodiak Menu panel application.
Mouse and Keyboard Connection
A standard PS/2 mouse and keyboard can be installed to the bottom of the
Menu panel if desired (see
). Be sure to power down
before installing either the mouse or keyboard.
Cable Polarity and Cross Over Button
The point-to-point connections between the Main and Menu panels and the
Video Processor frame, require that the Transmit (TX) and Receive (RX)
pairs in the Ethernet cables be swapped. This is normally achieved with a
special peer-to-peer (crossover) LAN cable or an Uplink port on the switch
or hub. The LAN cables supplied with the Zodiak system are straight
through cables. In order to swap the polarity of the TX and RX pairs in the
proper manner,
Cross Over
buttons are provided on the rear of both the
Menu and Main panel. Pressing the
Cross Over
button will either swap or
answer the polarity of the TX and RX pairs.
Although the cables and
Cross Over
buttons for each system have been set up
for proper polarity at the factory, changes to the button position can occur
during handling or installation. The button itself will not indicate what
state the polarity is in. Correct polarity can only be determined after power
up of the system. The LAN Link LEDs at each LAN cable connector should
illuminate after power up to indicate the connection is correct (see
).
If no communication can be established (either LAN Link LED is off), a pos-
sible cause may be incorrect cable polarity. Polarity is reversed by pressing
the
Cross Over
button on the Main and Menu panels.
