Native Grass Planting
The Series II Native Grass Box is for seeding fluffy,
native grass blends like Big Blue Stem, Indian Grass,
and Side Oats Grama.
Initial seeding rate for Native Grass is controlled by:
• Drive Type on the ground drive
• Driving/Driven sprockets at the Native Grass box
We recommend that you calibrate and adjust your drill to
help insure an accurate seeding rate.
Series II Native Grass Calibration
This method for calibration works on any type of native
grass no matter what seed type, weight, or density. It
also does not require any particular initial setup of the
Drive Type and Driver/Driven sprockets.
The drill’s revolutions-per-acre at the native grass cup
allows you to calibrate the output in pounds by cup
sprocket revolution per acre.
The pounds per acre in the seed charts are based on
drills with 9.5L x 15 rib implement gauge wheel tires. Be
certain that your tires are properly inflated.
This is the most consistent calibration procedure, and
works on all types of native grasses.
To calibrate seed mix:
1. Record the weight of an empty container large
enough to hold seed metered from the native grass
box.
2. Raise drill to get drive wheel off the ground. Be sure
all safety lock pins and/or blocking is in place.
3. Rotate gauge wheel to see that feed cups and drive
are working properly and are free from foreign mat-
ter.
4. To calibrate using calibration crank, attach crank to
upper jackshaft.
