I.
Replacing Ribbon Cables and Connectors
The connectors attached to the ribbon cables are not repairable. The cable and the
connector are a molded assembly. Replace the cable assembly with the proper part
number listed in section VI.
J. Replacing Cathode-Ray Tube
If the cathode-ray tube is found defective, replace CRT using procedure recommended in
paragraph 5.I. After replacement, perform the test and alignment procedures given in
section IV.
K. High-Voltage Power Supply
The components within the encapsulated portion of the HVPS module are not field
replaceable, nor is the encapsulated portion itself. If components within the encapsulated
area fail, it is recommended that the HVPS module be replaced and the faulty module be
returned to the factory for repair. After replacement, perform the test and alignment
procedures located in section IV of this manual.
L. Applying DOW Corning #4 Compound to High-Voltage Lead
The following procedure describes the process for applying DOW Corning #4 Compound
to the anode cap and CRT (tube). This process will prevent the possibility of arcing
between the yoke and spring contact up to an altitude of 25,000 feet.
WARNING: VOLTAGE DANGEROUS TO LIFE EXISTS IN THIS EQUIPMENT. REMOVE
ALL POWER FROM EQUIPMENT BEFORE PROCEEDING.
(1) Remove dust cover attaching hardware.
(2) Slide dust cover off rear of unit.
NOTE:
Use care to keep anode cap and CRT free of contaminants during handling and
assembly.
(3) Carefully disengage anode cap from CRT.
(4) Using a lint free cloth, clean the anode cap and CRT area with a solution of 75%
isopropyl alcohol and 25% distilled water.
(5) Fabricate an applicator by wrapping a lint free cloth around a static free rod. Use
applicator to apply a moderate to heavy film of DOW Corning #4 Compound in the cup
around the spring contact and around the anode of the CRT.
(6) Apply a moderate to heavy film of DOW Corning #4 Compound to the surface of the
anode cap.
(7) Fold back the outer perimeter of the rubber anode cap to expose the two conductors
(center and outer shield).
