test run
once the assembly is complete, test run your
machine to make sure it runs properly.
if, during the test run, you cannot easily locate
the source of an unusual noise or vibration, stop
using the machine immediately, then review the
troubleshooting
on
page 35
.

to test run the machine:
1.
Connect the machine to the power source.
2.
make sure you have read the safety instruc-
tions at the beginning of the manual and that
the machine is setup properly.
3.
make sure all tools and objects used during
setup are cleared away from the machine.
4.
turn the variable speed all the way down
(counterclockwise).
5.
turn the machine
ON
.
6.
listen to and watch for abnormal noises or
actions. the machine should run smoothly
with little or no vibration or rubbing noises.
— strange or unusual noises should be inves-
tigated and corrected before operating the
machine further. always disconnect the
machine from power when investigating or
correcting potential problems.
7.
slowly, turn the variable speed dial all the way
up (clockwise), then all the way down.

turn the machine

Never start the lathe with the indexing pin
inserted in the indexing hole. serious per-
sonal injury may occur.
the tailstock quill lock handle must always
be locked down while the lathe is in use. the
workpiece can be thrown from the lathe if
this step is not observed. also, the tailstock
quill should not protrude from the tailstock
housing more than 2'' or the quill will not be
supported enough. failure to follow these
warnings may result in personal injury.
NOTICE
always remove unlock the headstock spin-
dle before starting the machine or damage
may occur to the motor or other compo-
nents of the late.
Never operate the lathe with the quick
release lever loose. serious personal injury
may occur.
