Frame Assembly
FRAME ASSEMBLY
Use the diagrams and information that follow to assemble main frame.
ATTENTION:
Rafters are heavy.
Always lift rafter from two separate points to prevent damage and injury.
Examine site to determine the best way to move rafters into position and to set them onto each set of ground posts.
Review the Side Profile diagram for your high tunnel to determine positions of Style A and Style B rafters.
Optional, but recommended — especially for long buildings: Build a Rafter-Spacing Jig.
(Customer supplies materials.)
A spacing jig saves time and helps to evenly space rafters. Jig sets the on-center spacing of rafters. Examine the photo
below and use it to build a jig to space rafters during purlin installation. Use 2" x 4" lumber and wood fasteners.

Ground Level
ATTENTION:
Anchor first end rafter (Style A with End Clamps — 102857) in place using ground stakes and bracing,
straps, or rope.
Do not allow first rafter to stand without bracing until additional rafters are set and purlins are installed.
Connect rafter to ground post using an
FAH322 (5/16") carriage bolt (1), FAMF03B flat washers (2), and FALB32B
nut (1). Confirm that the bolt of each 102857 clamp is positioned inside the frame. See diagrams on next page.
For strut installation, slide QH1404 band
clamps for struts over these ground posts (B)
at each end
before setting rafters
. Diagonal
struts at corners are installed later.
