Installation and Use

Prior to use, plan your system:

1. Rope Positioning Device for use in combination with compatible vertical lifeline (VLL) only. Ensure VLL
is compliant with all applicable OSHA and ANSI regulations.

• Compatible VLL diameter: 5/8”.

!

WARNING

NEVER use with incompatible lifelines.

2. Eliminate all risk of lower end termination. Either ensure VLL will prevent user from striking next lower level
and that there is always adequate fall clearance, or that VLL will not reach the leading edge of any fall hazard
when used at its full length. NEVER tie knots in VLL, except at extreme bottom of lifeline in order to prevent
Rope Positioning Device from detaching.

3. Eliminate or minimize all risk of swing fall.

Use:

1. Compress Rope Positioning Device handle and slide onto compatible VLL.

2. To move Rope Positioning Device along rope, compress handle and slide in desired direction.

3. To lock Rope Positioning Device on rope, release handle.

4. Attach Rope Positioning Device extension lanyard snap hook to full-body harness dorsal D-ring, ensuring
maximum distance between Rope Positioning Device and harness D-ring will not exceed 36”. If VLL has
integral shock absorber, ensure shock absorber end is attached to anchorage connector.

5.

For use in Fall Arrest applications, PFAS must include shock absorbing component:

• For part # 01520, VLL must include integral shock absorber, or 01520 must be used in combination with
Guardian Shock Absorber Extension part # 01205. Be aware that the use of the 01205 may increase maximum
potential free fall.

• For part # 01521, no additional shock absorber is required. VLL may possess integral shock absorber, but use
with VLL without integral shock absorber is also permitted.

6.

When attached to Rope Positioning Device and moving along work surface, ALWAYS do so by moving

Rope Positioning Device along rope, and NEVER by moving only the rope itself.

 For example, if moving

from a roof edge to the roof peak, engage handle of Rope Positioning Device and move it up the VLL while
walking to peak. DO NOT move up to roof peak by moving VLL and keeping Rope Positioning Device stationary,
as doing so may result in free fall in excess of what is permitted by the system.
