SERVICE LETTER 15-001
Throttle position sensor
It is recommended to keep this letter within the Flight Manual.
Caution
:
This Letter is an explanatory supplement to Flight
Manual and should not replace it.
Always refer to the up-to-date Flight Manual, and particularly to
the section "Limitations".
Introduction
Several operators of the Cabri G2 have experienced random failures of the
throttle position sensor. Such failure may lead, under some specific
circumstances, to a degradation of the engine governor behavior and increased
pilot workload. It therefore bears a risk if the pilot does not react properly.
Engine governor failure is covered by Flight Manual procedure page 3-9, based
on the fact that the governor, by design, can be overtaken at any time by the
pilot, whatever the cause of the degraded behavior.
This Service Letter details the consequences of a throttle position sensor failure
in order to allow optimal reaction of the pilot and lower pilot workload.
History
There have been several upgrades of the throttle position sensor in the past,
though none completely suppressed the risk of failure. An all-new technology
sensor was developed to gradually replace older ones, starting January 2015.
The upgrade is now available to all the fleet.
This Service Letter remains valid even upon upgrade with this latest sensor
(P/N HG70-2308) installed, though the occurrence of a failure is then expected
to become very remote.
